It looks similar to the character “lao” from “lao shi” and then an ear, so I think of it as “all (dou) teachers have ears”

The slash in the middle is the connecting part of most of the character, showing me that it means “all” or “both

The first part of the character looks like a choice to make, the slash stroke separating both choices. “Should I choose the top one or the bottom one?” But then the right part of the character, looks like someone having their arms full with both items (from a bird eye view), “why choose, when you can have both/all!”
