I think of the right figure being a dressing room and the figure inside is trying on pants while someone’s waiting outside of the fitting room waiting

The left half of the character standing for “clothing” is obviously a big hint at the meaning, but what strikes me most about this character is how the right side is composed of a car (车) covered by an overhang radical. I associate both jeans and cars as being essential components of the United States’ consumer culture-influenced ideas of freedom. Jeans free you to move in any way that you want and take up many kinds of physical labor, while cars help you roam anywhere.
