The radical means flesh, but is exactly the moon character, and there is a legend during mochi season that the rabbit makes mochi on the moon and because it eats so much mochi, the rabbit is chubby. However this season only come every HALF a year, I think. So the left side is the bunny on the MOON and the right side the the HALF season.

This character is composed of the flesh radical and the character meaning “half”. If you eat a lot, your body will be 50% flesh.

the flesh radical and 半 shows maybe there is extra flesh, you have the flesh of 1 and a half person, so you are chubby (胖)

It looks like a person (on the left) using a walking stick (on the right), meaning that the individual needs support to distribute weight to the stick presented.

This is actually quite a random way to remember this character, but I remember this by associating it with one instance in class where one of my classmates used this for an assignment to say they are getting fatter and fatter which was a funny moment in class for me.

the 月 radical is half of “peng 朋“,and the other radical is “ban半”, therefore when you mix “peng” and “ban” together, it sounds like “pang”.

It takes two steps to be fat, bad food and no excercise (two strokes in first character) and you get two negative issues from being fat, no energy and not good looking (two strokes second character)
