I always remember the silk radical by associating it with how silk is made. Silk is made from silk worms, so I picture the top portion as two worm tails and the bottom as a thread.

This character looks like an old telephone held close to your ear, which is like talking to someone on the phone to make an appointment.

纟- someone sitting. If we connect it with second part, we would get someone sitting on the desk/reception, waiting to make a new appointment – 约.

Try writing the silk radical until you have completely memorized it, then you can use the silk radical to trigger your memory when you’re trying to remember the second part. I would also suggest learning 约 “Yue” with another character, like 纽 “Niu,” because it can be easier to remember two characters together than one by itself.
