On the left is the water radical, in the middle is the (‘方’)’put’ character and on the right is the ‘zi’ (子) character (which also means ‘character’) underneath a roof looking shape. Overall, I see someone in the middle leaning on the ledge of a swimming pool learning how to swim.

The character has the water radical on the left, so I think about the simplest activity that can be happening in water.

The characters consists of radical water in the left side, and 方 and 子.3 meanings together: water, side and child you can guess the meaning of verb “swim”.
